The Maccabees
The Maccabees
Festival Overview
The Maccabees' shambolic, scruffy onstage presence might not prepare you for their haunting, emotional songs. Their unique brand of definitively British art rock combines sweetly kitsch lyrics about heartbreak and family with angular guitars and singer Orlando Weeks' distinctive staccato vocals. Deserving praise has been heaped on recent album Wall of Arms – if you haven’t heard any of these gloriously edgy, dark songs, hit iTunes immediately. Or if you're still not convinced, hold out for T in the Park and Ray-Ban Rooms, where we're hoping for the kind of chaotic, no-holds-barred performances that have nearly got the band arrested in the past.
'Mould-breakers, hopeless romantics, unlikeliest of riot-starters: we should all just be glad that albums like this are being made while the sun's shining outside and we're alive to enjoy them. Long may The Maccabees keep on swimming against the wave machine's tide' NME
'Wall of Arms is the meticulously evolved sound of a band aiming to bid to breathe life into British indie' The Observer
